What is holistic approach?

Presently the holistic (from the word “whole”) approach is gaining in popularity. In a broad sense, this is a position in philosophy and science acknowledging the priority of the whole rather than its parts. In a therapeutic sense, a “holistic approach” means a comprehensive care of the whole body. It is often contrasted with traditional (or allopathic) medicine, which treats individual symptoms and organs, often without taking into account the root cause of the disease and the overall picture of the body’s functioning from physiological, emotional, social and mental perspectives.

The holistic approach is fundamental to many “alternative” therapies, such as naturopathy and all of its individual disciplines, including aromatherapy. Often this term can be found both in relation to cosmetics, and to individual wellness practices such as meditation, massage, yoga, “organic” food, sports, etc. In other words, the term indicates that these products or practices not only optimize all of the body’s resources in order to heal from a disease (if the disease has already occurred), but also prevent the risk of diseases through the harmonization of all bodily functions on all levels (physical, emotional and mental).

Whatever the current trends, before choosing one or another approach to your health and lifestyle, always listen to yourself. Your body will tell you what it needs in each specific situation. All you have to do is pay attention and timely recognize its signals.
