The main function of the candle for thousands of years has been to bring light. Today, we perceive the candle as an interior accessory that brings, among other things, a personal decorative touch and a pleasant scent (in case we use the scented candle).
There are some major differences between aromatherapy candles and conventional mass-produced candles, especially in composition. Conventional candles are made from paraffin and synthetic additives to add color and aroma. Paraffin wax contains chemicals harmful for health, such as benzene and toluene, plus added effect of toxins released from synthetic additives.
Aromatherapy candles, on the other hand, are good for your health, as they are made of natural waxes (beeswax or soy wax for example) and essential oils, which only release useful substances into the air. In addition, soy wax burns more slowly and therefore lasts longer than paraffin.
Here are my favorite ways to use my homemade candles:
– on the dining table to create a festive atmosphere;
– take a bath with candles (especially beneficial in winter!);
– for meditation: candles help to create a relaxing environment, and in addition, it is easier to clear your mind by focusing on the flame.
