Fear is an innate indicator of danger and serves us to preserve life and health. There is nothing wrong with the fact that we are afraid to jump from the height of a multi-storey building, for example. In this case, through fear we protect ourselves from unreasonable actions.
The other thing is to fear something that is not caused by a real danger, or a fear of an irrational nature. For example, fear of getting sick, speaking in public, fear of darkness, of spiders and the like. Such fears can and should be worked through, because experiencing them regularly may lead to a psychological, or even physical, dis-ease.
How to work through a fear? First of all, it is important to determine where it originated from, or when you first started experiencing it. During our lifetime we may experience “irrational” fears that do not even belong to us, that is to say, something happened to a friend or a family member, and the resulting emotional reaction got stuck in our subconsciousness as a fear that a similar thing may happen to us. In order to identify the root cause, during the Bach Flower consultation, I use interview and coaching techniques. Sometimes our conscious mind does not want to face the problem, in which case I may use meditation to relax the mind and body and to look at the situation from the perspective of subconscious mind. In some exceptional cases when fear results from highly traumatic experience and requires a professional psychological help, you may get a further reference to a qualified specialist.
Once the true cause of the fear has been identified, I select the flower essences to correct the symptoms. Dr. Bach identified 5 types of fears depending on the person’s emotions and behaviors, and created 5 different remedies to treat each of them:
- extreme fear, terror and panic, which may not always be rational;
- fear of known things from everyday life;
- unknown fears, which may take the form of apprehension, anxious anticipation, foreboding or dread;
- fear to lose control and to harm oneself or others (usually arising during conflicts);
- fear that something might happen to the loved ones.
It is an important part of healing to be aware of why you are taking a remedy, because this helps you understand a little more about yourself and encourages you to be guided in a positive direction.
Please note that the Bach Flower Remedies consultation is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, but is a complementary method to address and treat emotional dis-balance.
