Castile Soap

Castile soap has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Soap makers in Castile, Spain were the first to use olive oil to make their soap, hence the name of the soap. Their idea (and the soap recipe) eventually spread across Europe and around the world.

Unlike most commercial products which often contain synthetic chemicals, Castile soap is completely natural, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and free from animal products. Today it is made from an oil or a combination of vegetable oils. This can include olive, coconut, jojoba, aloe vera, palm, avocado, and a few other oils. For this reason, it is important to check the ingredient list of Castile soap before purchasing to make sure that all the ingredients are organic and that you have no allergies to the vegetable oils used.

Castile soap can be found in both solid and liquid formats. It can be used as a shampoo, body wash, hand wash or even as a mild detergent. Among my aromatherapy products, there is the foaming hand soap that I make from liquid Castile soap with the addition of essential oils. If you’d like to purchase it, please visit my Shop page here.
